Since this device was the first of its kind, an operating mechanism had to be developed to work with a shape that was attractive, user friendly, and easy to assemble. The process to come up with a workable concept was a parallel effort involving both design and engineering. Often products get made from the inside out, a sort of form-follows-function approach and then you end up with something unexpected.
